<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">There is a Plaque in the Catholic
Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Port of Spain Trinidad
dedicated to Ralph James Woodford 2nd Baronet of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlby" title="Carlby">Carleby, Lincolnshire</a>
- former Governor of Trinidad, The plaque is in English an reads: </span><br />
<br />
<i><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">“ To the Memory of Sir Ralph James
Woodford Baronet. For fifteen years governor and founder of this church.
Who was born on the 21st July 1794 and died on the 16th May 1828. The
inhabitants of Trinidad deeply sensible of the substantial benefits which his
long administration of the government conferred upon the colony and of the
irreparable loss which they sustained by his death have caused this monument to
be erected as a lasting memorial of his many public and private virtues and of
their respect and gratitude.”</span></i><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;"></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">The Title of Baronet of Carleby was created
for the Governors father, also called Ralph Woodford, and ended with the death
of the Governor, since he was not married and had no children. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">Before he was Governor of Trinidad, Woodford
lived in Madiera for a while. On the death of both parents he returned to
England, but wanted a government appointment like his father before him.
He eventually secured the position of Governor of Trinidad under the patronage
of Lord Henry Bathurst.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">In 1812 Chacon was appointed as Governor to
Trinidad.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">According to Wikipedia, he transformed
the Colony: </span><br />
<br />
<i><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">Much of the capital had been destroyed in
a major fire in 1808, and under Woodford's direction much of what is now the
old centre of Port of Spain was redeveloped. In view of the recent fire, only
stone buildings were permitted. Land was reclaimed to provide the first proper
wharfage giving access to trading ships. He arranged the purchase of an
abandoned sugar estate and laid it out as <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen%27s_Park_Savannah" title="Queen's Park Savannah">The Savannah</a> for the people's recreation and
as a cattle pasture. Purchasing also the nearby Hollandais Estate as his
residence, he also established there botanical gardens and had ornamental trees
planted in the town's main squares (including Brunswick Square, renamed
Woodford Square in his honour). He had the streets paved, Both of the current
cathedrals in Port of Spain have their origins in the churches he had built for
the Anglican and Roman Catholic communities</span></i><span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">In 1814 The Vicar Apostolic Don Joaquim de
Aristimuno discussed with the Governor Sir Ralph Woodford the need for a new
Catholic Church in the Capital. The Governor drew plans for the new church and
sent a report to the Secretary of the Colonies. He decreed that all debts to
the Catholic church be paid no later than three months from the decreed date.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">On March 21 1816 The Foundation stone was
laid for New Church by Englishman and Anglican Governor Sir Ralph Woodford. The
Colonial Government gave 16,000 pounds sterling at the time for its
construction. The site given for construction was the most eastern part of the
“plaza de Armes” (where the troops were drilled), now called the Brian Lara
promenade. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">In 1823, After a stoppage of work for
18 months due to lack of funds, the then Pope Leo XII sent money to continue construction
of the Building – Yes Trinidad was important to Rome too. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">On September 20th 1825 The
original tower (there was but one) was damaged by an Earthquake while
under construction. In the rebuilding, two towers were erected. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">In 1826 Colonial Government gives
another 2,500 pounds sterling to install the roof of the building. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">It should be noted that the Roman Catholic
Relief act of 1791, passed by the British Parliament allowed Catholics to
practice their faith openly. This allowed the Colonial Government to give
Catholics money to build their new church in the Capital of Trinidad. While the
Catholics were building their church, The Anglicans were building theirs too. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">In 1828 Governor Woodford was on a trip to
the UK because of ill health when he died on ship. He never got to see
the church completed in 1830.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 14.0pt;">The Church was made a Cathedral on 30th April
1950, when Port of Spain was made an Archdiocese, and in 1951 Pope Pius IX
declares the Cathedral to rank the status of Minor Basilica and to enjoy the
privileges of the Major Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome.</span><br />

</ul>
So it would seem that Charles Jasons recieving of the Holy Spirit From one Bishop to Another came through the Maronite Order of Bishops of Antioch. Following from this, here is a little history on Georges Rizquallah Beseb'ely from Wikipedia-<br />
<br />
<i>George Beseb'ely was born in the village of Beseb'el (from which his surname came), near <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tripoli,_Lebanon" title="Tripoli, Lebanon">Tripoli, Lebanon</a>, in about 1595, son of Hadj Rizqallah. He was chosen as auxiliary bishop and consecrated by Patriarch <a class="new" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Bawab_Safrawy&action=edit&redlink=1" title="John Bawab Safrawy (page does not exist)">John Bawab Safrawy</a> on July 25, 1656.</i><br />
<br />
<i>
</i><i>After the death of Patriarch John Bawab Safrawy happened on December
23, 1656, the bishops elected as patriarch the monk George Habquq, who
anyway for humility refused and escaped in a cave of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kadisha_Valley" title="Kadisha Valley">Kadisha Valley</a>
to live as an hermit. So a second election was held and on January 1,
1657 the Archbishop George Beseb'ely was elected patriarch. The new
patriarch sent to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rome" title="Rome">Rome</a> his credentials to obtain confirmation of the pope; but, for unknown reasons, the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_See" title="Holy See">Holy See</a> took the deal for long, to the point that the patriarch had to renew his instances. His election was confirmed by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Alexander_VII" title="Pope Alexander VII">Pope Alexander VII</a> on May 26, 1659, and he received the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pallium" title="Pallium">pallium</a> on August 30, 1660.</i><br />

<i><br /></i>
<br />
There were 56 Patriarchs of Antioch between the Founder of the Maronite order, John Maron and Patriarch George Beseb'ely. John Maron is the 63rd in line for the office of the Patriarch of Antioch after Peter the Apostle. "What?" says you. "But Peter was in Rome." Well here is what Antiochian.org has to say on the matter.<br />
<br />
<i>Church tradition maintains that the See of Antioch was founded by
Saint Peter the Apostle in A.D. 34. Peter was either followed or joined
by the Apostles Paul and Barnabas who preached there to both Gentiles
and to Jews, who seem to have been numerous in the city. It was in
Antioch that one of the first conflicts within the Church developed
between Peter and Paul. This conflict regarded the necessity of
circumcision for male Gentile converts to Christianity. It was the
resolution of this conflict at the Council of Jerusalem under Saint
James the Apostle that determined the direction of the Antiochian
mission to the Gentiles, and the dynamic nature of that Christian
community in its missionary outreach. It was from Antioch that Paul and
Barnabas departed for their great missionary journeys to the Gentile
lands (Acts 13:1).</i><br />

years in Antioch, Peter left for Rome. To succeed him as bishop of
Antioch he appointed Euodius, who is thus counted in early episcopal
lists as the first successor to the Antiochian Throne of Peter. </i><br />
<i>
</i><br />
<i>The See of Antioch continued its glorious contributions to the
universal Church by the numerous outstanding personalities it nurtured.
Saint Ignatius of Antioch for example (image to the right), is revered as both a victorious
martyr during the reign of Emperor Trajan (early second century) and as a
reliable historical source for the structure of Church life. Ignatius
was the second successor to Peter and may actually have been consecrated
by that Apostle or Saint Paul.</i><br />

<br />
Congratulations to the New Archbishop of Port of Spain.<br />
<br />
I listened to him speak to his brother priests at the installation Mass, "We will learn to work together." he said, and I thought good choice of words. Because even though our new archbishop is quite the orator, there are those among his number who really do not care for him. He is their new leader and they took a vow of obedience, so you know they HAVE TO follow his dictates. <br />
<br />
There are also church members who do not like him, and those who are quick to criticize him. One such critique is that even though he has the gift of Gab and that constant smile, that he is not a spiritual man. Time will tell. For me, the telling is to ensure that the office of Exorcist is manned. That says that he is fully aware of the devil as an active entity and is ensuring that there is someone or some people who are cable of dealing with this issue.<br />
<br />
There are those among us who think that he is as close (as we can get) to former Archbishop Anthony Pantin. That is to say, a rootsy priest.... a peoples person.<br />
<br />
His Grace is known for the many good works that he has done, including the work he started in Gonzales place to reduce crime. In the next 17 years, I am sure, the Church in Port of Spain will grow from strength to strength under his stewardship. <br />
<br />
As for my criticism? Well so far, I think he could have made a better choice of Vicar General. <br />
<br />
Also I think that he has a serious issue that must be deal with. I will not discuss (but will mention) birth control, or the oppressive Catholic secondary schools who bully poor parents for money. I will not discuss the Catholic church's lack of leadership in doing away with the SEA programme and the extortion that parents are forced to pay to get their children into a good school. No. Today I am asking that the Church address the lack of HOPE in our membership. The church today is faced with people just dropping out. They have lost "Hope" they do not believe. Please Your Grace, make this a priority, tell your brother priests that it is ok to tell the flock that they can expect and experience miracles, that it is not a thing of the past. Of the 17% of our church that go to church regularly on Sundays, we need to ensure that that the 90% of those who only walk in and out of church and do not participate in church activity (perhaps because they are not invited) come to church with a sense of HOPE. Two year Confirmation courses supposedly encourage people to come to church, but does it encourage HOPE. (Two year courses??? Really??? is this suppose to encourage activity or chase the youth away?? Why not effect these classes IN SCHOOL?) Masses that keep people in church for 90 minutes and over (not necessarily because of the homily) need to be stopped. People are busy, they don't need to be burdened by the church. Going to Church should not be like unpleasant work that has to be done. That encourages drop outs. Instead, the church needs to show that it is the proper conduit for salvation and HOPE.<br />
<br />
So Our Archbishops work begins as he aims to breathe new life into the Archdiocese. Good Luck and may God bless you in your Ministry Your Grace. <br />
<br />
<i>The photo at the top is taken from the online Trinidad Guardian and was taken by Marcus Gonzales. It is of two former Port of Spain Archbishops (Gilbert and Harris) with Jason Gordon. </i><br />

As a Catholic I know that there are many Catholics who believe in Creation, as there are many who believe in Evolution. However, most of the Catholics that I know believe in both. That is to say that God Created, but most likely through evolution. <br />
<br />
To many non Catholic Scientific minded people, and atheists, Catholics are a type of Christian and Christians are closed minded and fools. Never mind that most of us Catholics believe in Scientific analysis. <br />
<br />
Now, being closed minded is not opening your mind to other peoples beliefs or worse, not accepting that other people could have a belief different from yours. Ergo it would seem that atheists are closed minded people. <br />
<br />
Now in reality, Catholicism is not opposed to science. In fact we embrace it. The very concept of a university as a place of higher learning was created by the Catholic Church. There was nothing like it before. By 1500AD there were over 80 Universities in Europe, almost all founded and run by the Catholic church, and we continue to found and run Universities even today. <br />
<br />
All this being said to establish an idea in the readers head that the Catholic Church (which are made up of ordinary people and others) are all about learning, about languages, science, etc. <span>Did you know that Catholic Priest George </span>Lemaître<span> put forth a theory he called his "hypothesis of the primeval atom" which is now known as the Big Bang Theory. There are hundreds of Catholic Priests over the centuries whose names are linked to scientific studies and discoveries. </span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span>Now lets talk about Catholics and Politicians - Enter Mike Pence.</span><br />
<span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o2RM5bzVoUw/WQxh7xwEV_I/AAAAAAAABAY/fNMJ_PkSfJw53S3ZGte5awpVsZAmL2cRACLcB/s1600/untitled.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="249" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-o2RM5bzVoUw/WQxh7xwEV_I/AAAAAAAABAY/fNMJ_PkSfJw53S3ZGte5awpVsZAmL2cRACLcB/s400/untitled.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span>So Mike Pence describes himself as an evangelical Catholic, or as a Christian Conservative Republican. In a speech in the US Congress on July 11 2002 he spoke about new scientific discoveries and that the Theory of Evolution is just a Theory. He said that in schools it has been taught as fact for quite a while, not as a theory. </span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span>So we can take from that speech that he is a Creationist and that he is opposed to the teaching of Evolution and of course that he is not a scientific person. Well, maybe or maybe NOT. Rational people might say "not necessarily", and that they need more information to make a definite determination. But in the mud slinging of politicians its about inciting hatred, not about rational thinking. </span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span>And of course there is the press. The press will print what their Opinion Writers think. And many of the Opinion pieces are written by people with political agendas. So maybe there is a reporter somewhere who would have investigated this matter. </span><span>Enter interviewer Chris Matthews. </span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span>In a 2009 interview Chris Matthews asked Mike Pence directly if he was a creationist. And I must say, his answer is the answer that I would give. And I believe strongly in science.... as I do believe in God. Here is the excerpt from the interview:</span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span><span style="color: red;"><em>MATTHEWS: Do you believe in evolution, sir?</em></span><br />
<span style="color: red;"><em></em></span><br />
<span style="color: red;"><em>PENCE: Do I believe in evolution? I embrace the view that God created the heavens and the earth, the seas and all that’s in them.</em></span><br />
<span style="color: red;"><em></em></span><br />
<span style="color: red;"><em>MATTHEWS: Right. But do you believe in evolution as the way he did it?</em></span><br />
<span style="color: red;"><em></em></span><br />
<span style="color: red;"><em>PENCE: The means, Chris, that he used to do that, I can’t say. But I do believe in that fundamental truth.</em></span></span><br />
<span>So now Mike Pence is the Vice president of the United States of America and the atheist and scientist are all in a tizzy. Why? Because he is the Chairman of the National Space Council. But does anyone really know what that is? </span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span>The National Space Council was founded in 1958 by the US President Eisenhower. It was designed to be a policy-deciding committee – comprised of members of both public and private sector interests. It has authority over any of America’s federal agencies that deal with space in some way, including NASA and the Department of Defense. </span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span>Yes! They are all upset because in their mind a Catholic is stupid and Mike Pence is a catholic and you can't put a Catholic (aka a stupid person) to head a scientific (political) body. </span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span>Well I hope he proves them wrong. But I believe that no matter what he does, they will still find fault with him.</span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span>And just in case you didn't get what I said before: Catholics are usually Open Minded, scientific people who believe in God. We are Good People and we do make every effort not to be linked to hate speech and actions, and I do believe that Mike Pence has so far fit this description. </span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span> </span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span></span><br />
<span></span><br />

I always look forward to St Josephs Day in Lent. It is about feast not famine. We as Catholics are allowed to break the fast. Now, even though I have Irish Ancestry, I am not Irish, and so I do not break the fast on St Patricks Day. One may also break the fast on St Patricks day if your Parish is dedicated to St Patrick.<br />
<br />
As a Family we say a prayer every morning, and in that prayer, we ask Saint Joseph, Patron Saint of Families to Intercede for our Family.<br />
<br />
On this Feast of St Joseph, I wish to thank St Joseph for his intercession and carrying our prayers to the Throne of God that he may answer positively.<br />
<br />
Maybe it is not an accurate image, but I love the painting of the "holy family and dog" by the Spanish Baroque artist Murillo... which i have included here.<br />

graciously upon the beloved inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased
by his blood, and to aid us in our necessities with your power and

I often wonder why we dont see more photos of Catholic Celebrities wearing their ashes on Ash wednesday. Perhaps there aren't that many celebrities who are strong in their Catholic Faith. Perhaps those who are strong in their faith keep it private.<br />
<br />
Of course, there are many politicians who go to mass and the media snaps pictures of them with their ashes on their forehead.<br />
<br />
I found two photos on the internet that i think is so cool. One of Mark Wahlburg and one of Joe Biden. Now Mark was raised Catholic, probably because of his mothers Irish ancestry. And he maintains his faith with his wife Rhea Durham and their four children. He is a Democrat.<br />
<br />
One , well, then there is Joe Biden, Former vice President of the United States of America.<br />

Men of faith never really see themselves as important. They see themselves as unworthy, in the eyes of God. They see themselves as servants, no matter how high their position is. From Joseph the son of Israel in Egypt serving Pharoh, to US high court Justice Scalia.<br />
<br />
When my mother passed, we did not have a Eulogy. Not because we thought that she was not a remarkable woman, in fact we all beleive that she was truly a great woman and mother. We did not have a Eulogy, because we thought that our faith was about humility. We all try to live that today.<br />
<br />
I agree with Ed Whelan, the president for the Washington Based "Ethics and Public Policy Center" who, in agreeing with Barack Obama not attending the funeral of Justice Scalia, said Obama was doing the right thing (allowing the Vice President, a catholic, and friend of Catholic Justice Scalia to attend the funeral in his stead) by saying : "For Catholics, a funeral Mass is first and foremost a funeral, not an event of state"<br />
<br />
There is no doubt that Scalia achieved great position in his life, and served his God and the people of the United States of America with honour and dedication. Well done, good and faithful servant.<br />

What a beautiful piece of art to remember a beautiful day for all Christs Saints.</div>

<span style="font-size: 14pt;">The Catholic League has issued a list of quotes and circumstances that determine Pope Francis' stand on issues - despite what some in the press say :</span><br />
<strong></strong><br />
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Abortion </span></b><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 2.75pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;">
"It is God who gives life. Let us respect and love human life, especially
vulnerable life in a mother's womb." <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 2.75pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;">
"A pregnant woman isn't carrying a toothbrush in her belly, or a tumor…We
are in the presence of a human being." <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"> "The right to life is
the first human right. Abortion is killing someone that cannot defend him or
herself." </span></div>
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Anti-Catholicism </span></b><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"> "The world does not
tolerate the divinity of Christ. It doesn't tolerate the announcement of the
Gospel. It does not tolerate the Beatitudes. And we have persecutions: with
words, with insults, the things that they said about Christians in the early
centuries, the condemnations, imprisonment...But we easily forget. We think of
the many Christians, 60 years ago, in the labor camps, in the camps of the
Nazis, of the communists: So many of them! For being Christians! And even
today...But [people say] 'today we are better educated and these things no
longer exist.' Yes they do!...They are condemned for having a Bible. They can't
wear a crucifix." <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Catholic Colleges </span></b><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"> "Essential in this
regard is the uncompromising witness of Catholic universities to the church's
moral teaching, and the defense of her freedom, precisely in and through her
institutions, to uphold that teaching as authoritatively proclaimed by the
magisterium of her pastors....Your own identity—as it was intended from the
beginning—to defend it, preserve it, carry it forward." <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Catholic Dissidents </span></b><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 2.85pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;">
"Those with alternative teachings and doctrines [have] a partial belonging
to the church. [They] have one foot outside the church. They rent the
church." <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"> In 2014, the <i>Tablet </i>(U.K.)
reported that "The head of pro-reform movement We Are Church in Austria
has been excommunicated by Pope Francis for 'celebrating' Mass, the Austrian
press has reported." </span></div>
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">

<b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Catholics and Politics </span></b><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"> "A good Catholic meddles
in politics, offering the best of himself, so that those who govern can
govern." </span></div>
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">

<b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Euthanasia </span></b><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 2.2pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;">
"A civilization whose technological advancements do not seek to protect
the most vulnerable, from conception until natural death, fails to live up to

<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"> "A just society
recognizes the right to life from conception to natural death as

<br />
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">False Compassion </span></b><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"> "The dominant thinking
sometimes suggests a 'false compassion,' that which believes that it is:
helpful to women to promote abortion; an act of dignity to obtain euthanasia; a
scientific breakthrough to 'produce' a child and to consider it to be a right
rather than a gift to welcome; or to use human lives as guinea pigs presumably
to save others. Instead, the compassion of the Gospel is that which accompanies
in times of need, that is, the compassion of the Good Samaritan, who 'sees,'
'has compassion,' approaches and provides concrete help." <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Freedom of Expression (<i>Charlie

<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 2.8pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;">
"In theory, it may be said that the Gospel says we must turn the other
cheek. In theory, we can say that we have the freedom to express ourselves, and
this is important. In theory we are all in agreement, but we are human, and so
there is prudence, which is a virtue in human coexistence. I cannot continually
provoke or insult someone, because I would risk angering them, I risk receiving
a reaction that is not right, not right. But it is human. Therefore, I say that
the freedom of expression must take into consideration the reality of humanity,
and for this reason I say that we must be prudent. This means we must be polite
and prudent, as prudence is the virtue that regulates human relations." <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"> "If someone says a curse

cannot provoke. You cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of
the faith of others." <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 14pt;">
"Let us not be naive: this is not simply a political struggle, but it is
an attempt to destroy God's plan. It is not just a bill (a mere instrument) but
a 'move' of the Father of Lies [the Devil] who seeks to confuse and deceive the
children of God." <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 2.75pt;">

<br />
<div class="Default" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"> "At stake are the lives
of many children who will be discriminated against in advance, and deprived of
their human development given by a father and a mother and willed by God. At

regarding this subject is the figure of Pius XII, the Pope that led the Church
during World War II. They have said all sorts of things about poor Pius XII.
But we need to remember that before he was seen as the great defender of the
Jews. He hid many in convents in Rome and in other Italian cities, and also in
the residence of Castel Gandolfo. Forty-two babies, children of Jews and other
persecuted who sought refuge there were born there, in the Pope's room, in his
own bed. I don't want to say that Pius XII did not make any mistakes—I myself
make many—but one needs to see his role in the context of the time. For
example, was it better for him not to speak so that more Jews would not be

Unfortunately, reporter David O'Reilly does not give Archbishop Charles Chaput his due in accounting for the spike in ordinations under his tenure. It is not "the Francis effect" that explains the surge in seminarians; it is "the Chaput effect."<br /> <br /> How do I know this? Because if it were "the Francis effect," there would be an increase in men studying for the priesthood throughout much of the nation. This hasn't happened. To be sure, there has been an increase, but it is not widespread: a small number of dioceses disproportionately account for the uptick.<br /> <br /> If "the Chaput effect" explains the increase, then there should be evidence from the Archdiocese of Denver, Chaput's previous assignment, that seminarians increased under his tenure. There is. In 1997, Chaput took over the Denver archdiocese, and by 2006 it ranked third among all the dioceses in ordination. Under his leadership, the Denver archdiocese was typically in the top ten in the nation in attracting men to the priesthood. That he has brought his special gifts to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is evident in the latest data.<br /> <br /> O'Reilly errs—there is no reason to believe it was intentional—when he says there are 28,215 priests in the U.S. The correct figure is over 38,000</em></span></span></div>

There is a great article in the local news paper the Newsday of Wednesday June 24th 2015 talking about stamps issued of the Pope playing the Steel pan. That national Instrument of Trinidad and Tobago. This was a steel pan given to the Pope by the President of Trinidad and Tobago Anthony Carmona ( a good Catholic) on his visit to the Vatican for an audience with Pope Francis. <br /><br />

PRESIDENT Anthony Carmona was yesterday presented with a framed copy of two sets of postage stamps respectively from Ghana and Grenada, each commemorative set featuring His Excellency with Pope Francis the latter playing the steelpan. <br /><br />The presentation at the Office of the President, St Ann’s, was made by Trinidad and Tobago Philatelic Society, vice-president, Albert Sidney. <br /> <br /> Also present was Papal Nuncio, Nicola Girasoli, and Apostolic Nunciature Chargé d’Affaires, Monsignor Pawel Obiedzinski. <br /> <br /> At their meeting on July 6, 2013, at Vatican City, Carmona presented a tenor pan to Pope Francis, who immediately tried his hand at playing it. <br /> <br /> Upon being presented with the stamp sets yesterday, Carmona said, “Thank you very much. I will certainly cherish it.” <br /> <br /> Sidney said the issuance of the stamp-sets was very historic, saying the last time a Trinidad and Tobago head of State had been featured in an international postage-stamp had been in 2003 when former president Arthur NR Robinson had been honoured for his role in setting up the International Criminal Court. <br /> <br /> “So it is very significant that the international community focussed on President Carmona and Pope Francis and steelpan,” said Sidney. <br /> <br /> “It’s very good in terms of the deepening of relations between the two countries, and in terms of promoting the steelpan.” <br /> <br /> Sidney thanked Girasoli for his help towards the event by having liaised with his Ghanaian counterpart.</blockquote>

Wow! there is a cross being built in Pakistan. It is against the law to build a christian church. This guy is getting away with the cross probably because it is inside a christian cemetary. Christians are being killed regularly in Pakistan just because of their faith. There is something to be said for a man who glorifies Christ with the money he has, even though he knows that he very well may be killed for his actions. Praise God for people like him. So I read this article on a seminary in Detroit USA hiring an actors to help young emerging priests to give more animated and exciting homilies. Now I have had the discussion with many people, Do we want a show or do we want to be fed spiritually?<br />
<br />
On the one hand, many people who leave the catholic church talk about how boring the Catholic Mass is. Surely, as a parent i can identify with my children saying so too, but to be fair, if we had a three ring circus at the church they would be excited at first, but the mere fact that they HAVE TO go to church, instead of playing computer games, would have them grumbling.<br />
<br />
Also here in Trinidad, we have about 60,000 people who go to church every week, yet these 60,000 are invested in the church. They give more today than members gave ten years ago. They come to church for the BODY OF CHRIST, the homily is incidental.<br />
<br />
On the flip side, aren't we supposed to be a church of evangelization? How can we get people to come to church? Isn't one way to make the experience better? Does having an entertaining homily mean that the gospel can't be expressed properly? Of course it can be. The message could be made clearer and even more profound, if it is done right.<br />
<br />
We have some very caring and loving priests here in Trinidad, but not all are great orators. Perhaps, the archdiocese of Port of Spain could take a page from the book of the Detroit Seminary.<br />
<br />
Here is the article:<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Let's be honest, Catholic priests aren't known for soul-stirring
preaching. And according to Pope Francis and many ex-Catholics, that's a
problem. Boring sermonizing does not fill the sanctuary or pay
the bills. It certainly will not curb the steady march of American
Catholics from the faith.<br />
"Priests today have to compete with a
digital media culture where sounds bites, tweets and social media
updates are the currency of communication. It's a real challenge for
preachers to break through," said John Gehring, Catholic program
director at the Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group Faith in Public
Life.<br />
<br />
That's why Detroit's Sacred Heart Major Seminary has hired
two professional actors to put priests-in-training through an
acting/public speaking workshop nicknamed Preaching Boot Camp.<br />
For
the last several years, actors Arthur Beer and Mary Bremer-Beer have
conducted the three-week workshops at the seminary. The seminarians are
taught how to project, how to control tempo, and how to master timing in
order to deliver a Biblical truth or a laugh line. The married couple's boot camp is a change-up from the typical seminary classes in Catholic theology and doctrine. Classes
begin with rounds of vocal exercises — think "Peter Piper picked a peck
of pickled peppers." There are stretches to loosen muscles and minds.<br />
<br />
The
priests-in-training test their endurance in breathing exercises that
involve holding a lit candle in front of their mouths. The goal is to
exhale slowly to make the flame dance, while not blowing it out.
Learning how to control their breathing can help in their delivery. To
get them to tap into their emotions, the men were asked to write and
deliver speeches about their mothers — and to read those speeches to
their moms. When one of the seminarians said his mother started
crying, Bremer-Beer, a Henry Ford College acting teacher, took it as a
good sign: "Doesn't it make you feel good when they cry?"<br />
<br />
In an
afternoon session, the seminarians took to the stage. The students
memorized monologues involving characters from plays — a Jewish
businessman from Neil Simon's "God's Favorite" to an engaging
Irish-American pastor from "Mass Appeal." The men whooped and
applauded when classmate Edgar De La Cruz, 27, did a foot-stomping,
arm-pumping interpretation of a preacher from the drama "The Diviners."
De La Cruz can be philosophical and introspective, and his passionate
acting was a surprise, said his classmates.<br />
<br />
"My Daddy, now he was a
preacher," went De La Cruz's line. "Man took to the Bible like he was
there just to shout it. Gonna tell everybody! Gonna tell everybody about
the wonder and the miracle and the sweet love of Jesus." De La
Cruz had been told to amp it up from a previous practice. But on this
day, the delivery was staccato, not a fluid reverie. The preaching came
out as screeching.<br />
In the critique afterward, Beer, a University
of Detroit Mercy theater professor, credited the seminarian for trying.
But Beer said the student satirized the preacher rather than portraying a
heartfelt character. "That was Joel Osteen on speed," quipped
Bremer-Beer, referring to the noted televangelist and author whose Texas
church is one of the country's largest Protestant congregations.<br />

bible story for kids is the story of the seven brothers. My kids loved the
story. It was very funny for them. This story teaches one to be humble, to be
dedicated and to be firm in your faith. There is power in the name of Jesus,
but only for believers. This does not say that one cannot be a Hindu and then
acknowledge Christ and convert. This says that if that conversion takes place,
one cannot reclaim ones hindu faith and expect that there would be Power in the
name of Christ for that person. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

Exciting story from the Acts of the Apostles is the Story of the Magician
Simon. Simon was a pretty good magician and when he became a believer. Yet he
held on to his Magical practices. He even tries to Bribe Philip. Children seem
to be fascinated with magic. Harry Potter comes to mind. To our children, we
speak about what if the magician was Harry Potter and not Simon. From this
story we can determine that Real Power comes from God... that the Angel of God
was with Philip and that Philip was able to be used by God to do great things. We
discuss Philips humility. Almost every time he is mentioned in the Bible with
the other apostles, he is listed fifth. Yet even though he is not
among the first three, he is no lesser or greater than any of the other twelve
apostles. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="11"></a><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">11 He had this following because for a considerable period

<div style="line-height: 20.1pt;">
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="13"></a><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">13 and even Simon himself became a believer. After his baptism
Simon went round constantly with Philip and was astonished when he saw the

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Yet
another great story from the book of the Acts of the Apostles sounds almost
like a Monty Python skit.. if it wasn’t a serious story of God’s Work and
intercessory prayer. Here is the Great Peter – Arrested. Chained. Guarded. Yet
he escapes and the guards go “ Huh? Where did he go? Have you seen him? No!
Have you?” Then he shows up at the door of his friends and the woman who greets
him runs away and leaves him at the stoop instead of letting him in. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">On
a serious note, the story shows the power of prayer. Peter’s friends prayed
unceasingly. It is significant to note that James – the son of Thunder, had
just been beheaded. The disciples expected the same fate for Peter. An Angel of
the Lord comes in and rescues him. The bible does not tell us how long Peter
was in prison, or how long the disciples prayed. The significance of the story
is that there are those who of lesser faith than you who can pray for you and
get a miracle. Or You can pray for another (say a priest) who may have greater
faith than you and still a miracle can occur. The trick is to pray unceasingly
and also to remember that where two or three gather in His name, He is there. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="chapter-2" style="margin: 1em 0in;">
<span class="chapternum"><i><strong>ACTS 12: 1-19</strong></i></span></div>
<div class="chapter-2" style="margin: 1em 0in;">
<span class="chapternum"></span> </div>
<div class="chapter-2" style="margin: 1em 0in;">
<span class="chapternum"><i>12 </i></span><span class="text"><i>Now about that time Herod the king laid hands on some who
belonged to the church in order to mistreat them.</i></span><i> <span class="text">2 And he had James the brother of John put to death
with a sword.</span> <span class="text">3 When he saw that it
pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. Now it was during the days
of Unleavened Bread.</span> <span class="text">4 When he had
seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him to four squads of soldiers to
guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out before the people.</span>
<span class="text">5 So Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer
for him was being made fervently by the church to God.</span></i></div>
<br />
<span class="text"><i>6 On the very night when Herod was about
to bring him forward, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two
chains, and guards in front of the door were watching over the prison.</i></span><i>
<span class="text">7 And behold, an angel of the Lord suddenly
appeared and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter’s side and woke him
up, saying, “Get up quickly.” And his chains fell off his hands.</span> <span class="text">8 And the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and put
on your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your cloak around
you and follow me.”</span> <span class="text">9 And he went out
and continued to follow, and he did not know that what was being done by the
angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.</span> <span class="text">10 When
they had passed the first and second guard, they came to the iron gate that
leads into the city, which opened for them by itself; and they went out and
went along one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.</span></i><span class="text"><o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<span class="text"><i>11 When Peter came ]to
himself, he said, “Now I know for sure that the Lord has sent forth His angel
and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were
expecting.”</i></span><i> <span class="text">12 And when he
realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was also
called Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.<o:p></o:p></span></i><br />
<br />
<span class="text"><i>13 When he knocked at the door of the
gate, a servant-girl named Rhoda came to answer.</i></span><i> <span class="text">14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of her
joy she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter was standing
in front of the gate.</span> <span class="text">15 They said to
her, “You are out of your mind!” But she kept insisting that it was so. They
kept saying, “It is his angel.”</span> <span class="text">16 But
Peter continued knocking; and when they had opened the door, they saw him and
were amazed.</span> <span class="text">17 But motioning to them
with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had led him out
of the prison. And he said, “Report these things to James and the brethren.”
Then he left and went to another place.</span></i><br />
<br />
<span class="text"><i>18 Now when day came, there was no small
disturbance among the soldiers as to what could have become of
Peter.</i></span><i> <span class="text">19 When Herod had
searched for him and had not found him, he examined the guards and ordered that
they be led away to execution. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea and was
spending time there.</span><o:p></o:p></i></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
In another story from the book of acts we read about the great bounty of God and intercessory prayer. So a good servant of God called Tabitha dies. Her friends and family call upon Peter to intercede…. And what an intercession. <br /><br /><strong>ACTS 9: 36-42</strong><br /><br /><em>"At Joppa, there was a disciple named Tabitha. Her name translated is Dorcas or Gazelle. This woman was full of good works and constant acts of mercy. However, she fell sick in those days, and died. Her carers washed her and laid her in an upper room." <br /><br />"The disciples at Joppa heard that Peter was nearby at Lydda. So they sent two men to Peter, imploring him to come to them without delay. Peter got up and went with them. On reaching Joppa, they brought Peter into the upper room. All the widows stood by weeping. They showed Peter the coats and garments that Dorcas had made while she was with them alive." <br /><br />"Peter asked everyone to leave the room. He knelt and prayed. Then he turned to the body and said, “Tabitha, arise!” Tabitha opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. He offered her his hand, and lifted her up. Then he called the saints and widows and presented Tabitha alive. This miracle became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord." <br /></em><br /><br /><br /> <br /><br /><br /><br /><br /> <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; mso-themecolor: text1;"><o:p></o:p></span></i></b></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">

depart from the daily bible readings <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>as

or the Angels Effect death upon two liars. The lesson in this story is that you
are not obligated to make promises, but when you promise something to God that you
must make every effort to fulfill that obligation or promise. Including Lenten
activities (fasting Prayer etc) because you can cheat yourself but your should
never cheat God. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

I like Classical Music. I like Rock Music. I like Reggae. I

These days I find myself listening to Classical Music
arranged and adapted to rock… well, mostly Rock. I have compiled a list of what
I am into for anyone who might be also interested.</div>

<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Mason Williams –

German pop and crossover violinist. His band is a full on pop band with drums,
keyboards, guitar, bass and of course he plays violin. David holds the Guiness

the bumble bee). He covers rock (zeppelin, Nirvana etc) and of course does
classical pieces. Two of my favourite pieces are<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>- <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">AIR

A well loved band, but maybe not that well loved. They also recorded a cover of
the <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>chuck berry song “Roll over
Beethoven” and infused Beethoven’s music into it.</div>

Vanessa describes her music as “Violin Techno acoustic fusion.” And her body of
work is quite varied. She is a classical Violinist and has albums of classical
violin music with full orchestra. She was commissioned to write a song for Hong
Kong when China
took repossession. It is called “Happy
Valley (the 1997 re-unification
overture)”. But she has some Pop albums that are pretty Good : “The Violin
Player” and “Kids Classics” are two that Stand out to me. In relation to Songs
I would recommend her versions of <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Tocata
en Fugue in D Minor (JS Bach)</b>. Also <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Flight
of the Bumble Bee (Rimsky Korsakov)</b>. And lastly an all out pop dance song
which she calls <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">“(i) can can (you</b>)”
which is really her adaptation of the Infernal Gallop from Orpheus in the
underworld (Offenbach).</div>

<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Therion - O Fortuna

music is the fact that they have multiple vocalists who sing in the style of
opera. Yet as far as I know this is their only classical piece. They do covers
too. I personally like their cover of Abba’s “Summer night city”.<span style="background: white;"></span></div>

covers of classic rock songs. However they have several albums of classical
music. One song stands out for me - <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Toreador

Toreador song from Carmen, but that’s ok, whatever it is called, I still love
it. </div>
