It's only a tiny rosebud, a flower of God's design -but who wrote it.

Recently someone posted a comment referring to my posting of the poem "It's only a tiny Rosebud". The individual claimed that the Author of the poem was Vernie McMqueen and that I am to remove the poem. Well, I had searched the internet for the Author and had not seen any. Now after perusing the "turn back to God Blog" I have observed a very interesting exchange on who the poem actually belongs to:

Someone posting as Wendy wrote on "Turn back to God" :

I would like to advise people that this author is known. No one has the right to repost with any links to any site. Be advised that if you post, print, collect any said monies, etc. will result in further actions. No one has permission to post or print or give authorization of such actions
When challanged on what right she had to post such a thing Wendy wrote:
The copyright is in the works and this poem was written for the old preachers back in the day by a lady who died of cancer. She has many paintings and poems but got thrown around after her death. She was a great and true christian lady who believed in God. If you like to know who the author is and give credit without rendering monies or any other type of payments than email me at wen_lynn@hotmail.com
Another woman called Jana gave her story on the poem and how it came about:
The “old preacher” was the late Rev. I. H. Terry who pastored a thriving church for many years in Bakersfield, California. The “younger preacher” was Rev. Vaughn Morton who had just gone through a terrible divorce. Rev. Vaughn Morton currently is the pastor of Truth Tabernacle in Fresno, California. As a young evangelist, Rev. Morton told the story of Rev. Terry taking him into his garden, cutting a rosebud off a bush then handed it to him and told him to unfold it. Rev. Morton tried and made a mess of the rose. Then Rev. Terry told him to be patient and let God unfold his life. From that, Rev. Morton preached a sermon he titled, “Just Let It Unfold.” I happened to personally hear him preach this sermon in 1969 at Apostolic Gospel Church of Delano, California. The following week, a woman brought a framed piece of art that was a drawing of a rose around this poem. I don’t believe the real author has ever been given credit for the poem. I don’t recall the woman’s name. I do remember seeing the framed art she brought to the church after Rev. Morton preached the sermon, “Just Let It Unfold.” To be honest, I’m not entirely certain the woman authored the poem but she did have it typewritten with some rose artwork around it in the frame.
Then the plot thickened. A man posted that HE was the actual Author of the poem:
HI, MY NAME IS DARRYL L. BROWN. I AM NOW A PASTOR. I WANTED TO GET THIS POEM OUT MANY YEARS AGO BUT I HAD NO IDEA IT WOULD GET OUT LIKE THIS. GOD GAVE ME THIS POEM IN 1974. I HAD LOST MY WIFE AND CHILDREN THROUGH ADULTERY. I WAS LOST, I SAT UPON A ROCK AND I WROTE BY INSPIRATION OF GOD THIS POEM IN ABOUT 3 MINUTES. I AND ONLY I HAVE THE COPY WRITE REGISTRATION NUMBER FOR ROSE BUD, I HAVE THE ORIGINAL TEMPLATES OF CARDBOARD AND WOOD I USED TO MAKE THE FIRST ONES. I SOLD ABOUT 12 OF THOSE WOODEN PLAQUES AROUND 1975. I STILL HAVE AN ORIGINAL PLAQUE. AND 3 OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS STILL HAVE A ORIGINAL ONES ALSO THAT I MADE IN 1974. I HAVE A COPY WRITE NUMBER AND WILL GIVE IT TO WHO EVER MAY NEED IT. I HAD THE COPY WRITE DONE IN 1985. I NEVER PUT THAT STORY ABOUT TWO PREACHERS, SOMEONE ADDED THAT TO IT. I WANTED TO REACH EVERYONE NOT ONLY CHRISTIANS BUT PEOPLE WHO MAYBE SEARCHING FOR GOD! I HAVE SENT PROOF TO ABOUT TWO WEB SITES ALREADY SO THEY COULD USE MY POEM. I COULD DO THE SAME FOR YOU. BUT I WANT TO WARN THOSE WHO WOULD LIE AND CLAIM THIS POEM, THE COURTS WILL JUDGE YOU AND THEN GOD WILL HAVE THE FINAL SAY! P.S. GOD RESTORED MY WHOLE FAMILY BACK TO ME. I AND NOW I HAVE 12 GRAND CHILDREN AND 3 GREAT GRANDS. THANK YOU FOR LOVING ROSE BUD I BELIEVE GOD WANTS THE WORLD TO HAVE THIS POEM.
What followed was an intense discussion of opposing views. Both parties seemed to believe that the poem belonged to their camp. Pastor Darryl Brown says that he did not add the preacher story to the Poem, the other party insisted that it did happen. It would seem that Pastor Brown want's to reach many people and the children of Vernie wants acknowledgement and perhaps something more. Nonetheless, as the good Pastor says God will be the judge.
Now. The real question is " Who do I get permission from to leave my post up?

Here again is my version: IT"S ONLY A TINY ROSEBUD

A newly ordained priest was walking with an older, wiser Priest in a garden one day. Feeling a bit insecure about what God had in store for him, the younger asked the older for some advice.
The older priest walked up to a rosebush and handed the younger a rosebud and told him to open it without tearing off any petals. "What does this have to do with anything" he thought to himself, still out of respect for the older man he tried but soon he realised he could not achieve what was asked of him.
Noticing the younger priests inability to unfold the rosebud without tearing it, the older preacher began to recite the following poem...
"It is only a tiny rosebud,
A flower of God's design;
But I cannot unfold the petals
With these clumsy hands of mine."

"The secret of unfolding flowers
Is not known to such as I.
God opens this flower so easily,
But in my hands they die."

"If I cannot unfold a rosebud,
This flower of God's design,
Then how can I have the wisdom
To unfold this life of mine?"

"So I'll trust in God for leading
Each moment of my day.
I will look to God for guidance
In each step of the way."

"The path that lies before me,
Only my Good Lord knows.
I'll trust God to unfold the moments,
As He unfolds this rose."

    2. Look I had this problem with you before! God tells me to be angry and sin not, so I wish you would try to me for it will surely back fire. I have given 3 people the right to make songs already. I have given another person the right to produce a package for the military with my poem in it. Mrs Angelene White you may have the copy rights to the preacher story but you have no right to THE ROSE BUD POEM! again The print shop that originally printed my poem is in Staten Island NY they are still operating just at a different location. This week I pulled down from my closet my original prototypes I had made different shapes out of cardboard for different designs for my plaques. You don't have nothing near that!plus my copyright was done in 1985 i am so glad that God advised me to do a Copyright, because this is disgusting! I am alive and well I live in Georgia. I have two brothers and two sisters who still have my original plaques and I have one they are old aged, nothing made up. If you want to do battle in the courts lets do it because now i'm sick and tired of this foolishness! I'm not into for fame or money for freely I had received and freely I want to give! Keep in mind I did not write about the pastors because that would limit who would read it. my email is, brownslord@hotmail.com

  2. Dearest Angelene, Are you only about fighting, why won't you give me the right to post this famous poem here? Are you motivated by greed or love? .... and about that lawyer.... you do know that I am not in the United States of America. Lastly, How do I even know that you own the copy write, when there is obviously someone else claiming that he wrote it and has it copywriten. With the proper proof I will remove the poem, if you wish me to.... and there will be no need for you to spend thousands of dollars on someone overseas to remove some words from a blog. Think about it.

    1. Dearest Angeline, I cannot understand your post. How old are you? I think you are saying KNOW (like NO) but typing NOW (like COW). Your shorthand is confusing to me. You even spelt Mosley wrong and by the way her book is a 2005 book. The other guy says he copywrote his poem in 1970's.

Anyhoo Are you giving me permission or not?

  4. So, did the issue get resolved or not? I have shared this poem many times before, Author Unknown, as the writer. It has gone viral many times, not just on blogs and email, but through many other electronically social means such as bbm and whatsapp. It would be extremely difficult to stop each and every person from sharing ..... and shared it should be. As long as those that share don't claim to having written it, I don't see the problem.

  5. Well, There are two people who claim to have written the work. Both claim to have had it copywritten. I am leaving it up, because I find it so inspiring. While the other person says put it up anywhere on the internet once you don't make money from it, Angeline just wants it taken down. What you going do?

  6. I don't know or care who wrote this poem. My 96 year old mother passed away last year and in her book of prayers I found a hand written copy of this poem. She obviously loved the meaning of it and she believed what was written on it. Honestly, I understand copyrights and monetary issues as I hold several of my own. Just wanted whoever shared it with the world to know that an elderly lady somehow received it into her hand by the Lord and it gave her strength in her final years to know that her God was with her. God bless all ~ Linda

  7. The poem was written by Vernie White. She did paintings of Jesus and other paintings of the bible. She wrote this poem and shared it with preachers. This poem was about her peace and her acknowledgement of God. You guys may not care but do care enough to give respect where it is do.

  10. I know this post has been up here for quite some time. I am just curious about a few things. Firstly about Darryl, whom I will not refer to as Pastor, because he is not my pastor nor can I verify credentials for ministry. As for pastor though, that title is reserved for those who you lead in your own congregation and we don't submit to that authority and name on a blog space, but blessings to those in your congregation who do submit to you. My former and most beloved PASTOR, before he retired shared this poem with our church when I was very young and spoke of having received it from someone years ago. I don't recall who or if he even mentioned a name, but I will say this would be before Daryll's date of claiming to write the poem.
So one of two things has happened here, and both are plausible--- a) Daryll found the poem, realized there was no author, decided to submit it for copywrite and claim it for himself or b) Daryll did actually write the poem, but someone else was actually divinely inspired to write it as well.
You can't argue that this cannot be possible, because there were several divinely inspired writers of the word of GOD. Though their writings were not word for word, they were still inspired by GOD and without error. A man of GOD, who says GOD gave this poem to the world, shouldn't be getting all uptight about whether his name is upon the poem or not. I don't think the men of the BIBLE days ran around going, "Hey! I wrote that!" "No! I wrote that!" Hello?? GOD wrote it, those men penned it! Let's honor this message for those it has helped and not fuss and fight over who the "rightful" author is. Rejoice that it has helped so many, and move on. The rightful person who penned the poem will most likely be rewarded in heaven far greater than any reward here on earth (unless he/she is fussy). No one is trying to make a dime, they just want to share the poem to help others! Isn't that what we are commissioned to do when it comes to something supposedly divinely inspired by GOD? Being borderline hateful, threatening with lawyers, and showing a need for "me, me, me" is just greedy and un-CHRISTlike, in my honest opinion. Not the ways of any PASTOR I have had the privilege to respect, love, and have authority over me. Blessings in Christ, Jennifer

P.S. Daryll, if you did write this poem, why not use the technologies of today and post pictures of all your evidence on a website specifically geared to giving yourself the credit you think you deserve.

You have original evidence that will stand up in court. Let’s see it and end the madness that seems to be upsetting you. Scan the documents. Take pictures. Post documents. Post Photographs. I am sure if you have the original, a handwriting analysis could be done to prove it was penned in your hand as well.

It seems the original author didn’t want to be known, because he or she prefered the glory go to GOD alone and not to a name one could have easily written at the bottom of the poem to glorify themselves.

    1. Nobody is claiming the Gospel of john as their own, you know who wrote it because, it was their own personal experiences with god period. That analogy was whack! Your trying to sound so educated but your opinions don't hold up to the truth. If he allows everyone to claim it that means they can change it and do what they want with it, therefore taking it and not giving god the glory for a poem but just making it inspirational, Can't let that happen!

    2. LEGALLY I DIDN'T WANT TO POST EVERYTHING OUT IN THE OPEN UNTIL I HAD LEGAL ADVICE. BUT ANYONE WHO SERIOUSLY WANTED TO KNOW HAS ALREADY RECEIVED PROOF FROM ME, THAT IS WHY THEY FELT FREE TO POST MY POEM WITH MY COPYRIGHT UNDER IT. I'M SORRY I DIDN'T SEE THIS POST UNTIL NOW. I THOUGHT THIS ISSUE WAS SETTLED.

  11. Wow. Anyone as lost as me who the original author is? Look at the posting on "Pastor" Darryl's website. I googled. It says copywrite in 1985 though he claims to have written it in 1974. He gave permission for an artist to use it in some works she did and sell it on her website. She lists that the author, Darryl, told her the poem was written in 1984. She also lists the copywrite as 1984. I have found, searching online, several others who claim to have the copywrite, know the writer, or know of the writer or origin and none of them state anyone by the name of Darryl. One story tells of an apostolic preacher who was shared the poem, along with his cohorts, pastor and mentor before either date Darryl is using. I'm not sure but something doesn't set right here.
